Davao City: Truly a Land of Promise

Del.icio.us  Digg  Technorati  Facebook

On personal note, Davao City has always been and still is a Land of Promise.

Though bruised by the challenges that the city and the country as a whole has faced for the past years (including the painful Davao City airport bombing and many other threats to economic and security conditions), the people of Davao has remained optimistic.

Now, Davao is booming. As a pure blooded, true blue Dabawenyo, I have been a witness to its rise and fall for the past 15 years (not including the 7 years of innocence, hehe). Where there were traffic jams before, now are automated high-tech traffic management system facilities, equipped with vehicle detection in every direction for optimum light shifting time intervals (thanks to the efforts of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who has brought such technology from Australia). What used to be ugly street islands are now beautifully landscaped city gardens. A beautiful high-security Davao International Airport is beginning to compete with other international airport here and abroad. Approval of No-Smoking on Designated Places City Ordinance has received “two-thumbs up” compliments and has protected non-smokers so far.

On the issue of security, I believe the putting-up of Task Force Davao has also brought about confidence not just in the local citizens but also in internal and external investors. It has also prompted the Dabawenyos to be more “crime-preventive” by being involved in over-all city safety drives. The 911 is one that has helped in this area.

With all these, the appearance of big investors are becoming more and more evident, with constructions of hotels and amusement areas, IT business hubs, local small and medium industries gaining more market stability, and many others indicative of growth.

In closing this article, I cannot help but be thankful for being brought up in Davao City, a true Land of Promise!
