DAVAO CITY — Denden de Castro won via countback to win the class A title even as Jong Tan, Paul Puyat, Rudy Bernardo, Frankie Liu and Jing Tan shared the top honors in the 1st F.S.Dizon Charity Golf Tournament, Saturday, at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.
De Castro submitted a 68 but won via countback over first runner-up Eric Noh and Soc Cadayona. But not in class B as Jong Tan finished with a 69, one stroke better than first runner-up Jeff Ramirez. John Mari Larrabaster settled as second runner-up winner.
Paul Puyat had the same experience with de Castro when he carded a 72 to grab the class B crown. Rufino dela Serna and Bong Calizo followed as first and second runners-up placers.
Rudy Bernardo’s 73 was just enough to win by one stroke over second placer Mayong Pilleren and third placer Jet Tangtatco with similar 74s.
Frankie Liu clinched the women’s crown with a 72 while Jing Tan sizzled with a 70 to emerge lowest gross winner of the tournament organized in honor of the late Don Francisco “Paco” Dizon and that benefitted the Davao Medical Center, Balay Pasilungan, Maharlika Charity Foundation and Missionary Sisters of Charity.
National Seniors Golf Team member Jose Marfori, tournament spokesman, said that the Dizon family intends to hold the tournament every year to benefit the favorite organizations of the late businessman and philanthropist.

DAVAO CITY — Even after his death, help will continue for four organizations when the 1st F.S. Dizon Charity Golf Tournament tees off on November 10 at the all-weather Rancho Palos Golf and Country Club.

Jose `Joe’ Marfori, son-in-law of the late Don Francisco `Paco’ Dizon, announced on Thursday’s DSA Forum at the Tower Inn that the tournament aims to raise P1 million to benefit the Davao Medical Center, Maharlika Charity Foundation, Missionary Sisters of Charity and Balay Pasilungan.

Don Paco allocates funds to support the four organizations every year when he was still alive and the family members decided to continue the legacy left by the philanthropist.

Marfori said that all proceeds will be given to the organizations.

The charity golf tournament offers, though, P1 million as hole-in-one prize other than the prizes at stake for the winners.

Guests from Manila and Cagayan de Oro cities are joining the event, said the national senior’s golf squad member.

Two hundred golfers are expected to see action.
