September 30, 2008

With the increasing demands of these trying times, the Trainings and Seminars Committee and the Professional Management Team (PMT) of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCCII) is exhausting all efforts to make Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2008 productive and constructive.

With barely three weeks, the three-day event is bound to cater trainings and seminars that are in consonance with three themes that constantly pound the business world: Finance, Entrepreneurship/HRM, and Marketing.

On the onset of DATE 2008 on October 23 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center (Davcon), Professor Freddy Serapio is to be the resource speaker for the Finance training/seminar entitled “Make More Money: Manage your Funds (The Blue Ocean Strategy)”. Serapio, a royal blooded Atenean, is a distinguished mentor of Basic, Strategic Marketing, Sales Management, and Strategic Management in the aforementioned university. He currently holds the position as the Academic Program Director for Marketing.

His training will basically take money-handling problems into center stage. Serapio encourages entrepreneurs to take advantage of the simplicity and applicability of the renowned Blue Ocean Strategy in eliminating or reducing these common financial problems.

The trainings for the second day will come across ideas that will revolve around innovations, strategies, and human capital in lieu of providing good customer service and effective human relations.

Anchored on the first half of the second day, Mr. Newell Cubacub, will give a back-to-back in-depth training/seminar on efficient and commendable customer service. Cubacub, Pit Manager of Casino Filipino and Consultant in the customer service arena, challenges the regular know-how and limitations of common customer service. Included in this package are innovations and strategies in giving customers a renewed sense of how it is to be served with a silver platter. Entitled “Effective Customer Service in the Corporate World”, the training is due at 9:00-11:30 on October 24.

On the afternoon of the second day, “Taking Care of People for Competitive Advantage” will kick off with resource person Dr. Myrna Viado, HR Department Head of One Network Bank (ONB). Being an expert consultant in Human Resource Development and Management, Viado will provide a training that will help entrepreneurs get the best out of human capital, which is often neglected by most companies. She stressed how entrepreneurs should realize the importance of banking on human resource as a capital, an investment, and not an added expenditure or burden on the company.

The final day will showcase a training/ seminar from the reputed Dir. Jed Loma, Dean of the Asian Pacific College, and an expert IT consultant who specializes in E-commerce. His training will underscore the importance of technology in speeding and increasing the competitive advantage of every business. Thus entitled “Creating Sustainable Competitive Advantage Thourgh E-commerce”, Loma targets most importantly the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to expand their knowledge on the dynamics of building a strong business while being equipped with the right technological tools. - Cherry Concon

The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (DCCCII) highs itself with pride as it once more pushes the longest running trade expo in Davao, the Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2008. Set on October 23-25, 2008 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center (Davcon), DCCCII is looking forward to showcase this year’s theme being “Davao: Land of Great Opportunities and Endless Possibilities”.

The existing theme is in response to the need for Davao and Mindanao as a whole to uplift its image from being an area of active hostility to an area of active economic activities and investment destinations.

The image of Mindanao being a war zone has been a constant source of discomfort for investors; making them despondent to invest not only in Davao but in nearby areas in Mindanao as well. Thus, DCCCII challenges Davao’s neighboring cities to take DATE as an opportunity for them to overturn the negative image the media has created and make the event as a venue to promote their respective industries.

Among neighboring cities/ provinces that have shown interest to join DATE 2008 are Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS), Province of Davao del Norte, Digos City, Tagum City, and Kidapawan City/ Province of North Cotabato. Accordingly, North Cotabato Tourism and Investment & Promotions Officer expresses a great challenge as to how Cotabato must be showcased as a city of peace amidst the rampant undercurrent security crisis in the area.

Moreover, DATE 2008 is also capitalizing on the rising Information and Communication’s Technology (ICT) activities in the city as this event opens up more business matching opportunities between this sector and other participant-sectors such as Industry, Agriculture, and Professional Service and Ventures.

Being the prime mover of economic activities in Davao, DCCCII have for ten years made DATE as a provider of business opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) in Davao.

Celebrating ten years of success, DATE which was launched last July 11, 2008 at the Davao Convention and Trade Center, promises to surpass the previous DATEs in terms of visitors, participants, exhibitors, and booked sales. With barely seventy days to go, the professional management team (PMT) of DCCCII, being the organizer for this grandiose annual event, is intensively campaigning and coordinating with other local government units (LGUs). - Cherry Concon
