Kaliwat Ensemble at Taboan

I had dinner with friends at Taboan, Matina Town Square and witnessed a performance which had a strong political message: To live in Mindanao in harmony amidst diversity. The group comprised of people from different ethnicity and religion and a play was presented, laying down different opinions expressed by Mindanaoans.

A friend from Manila was impressed […]

Rondalla of Different Races

I had the chance to visit Davao City’s People’s Park. I saw these statues, an ensemble of Davaoeños of different races playing music in a string band locally called “Rondalla”.
The message is clear - no matter what your race is, as long as you are in Davao City, you can “make music” and live […]

Mother and Son

Luksong Tinik is a game that has been played […]

Kublai’s Masterpieces - Men in Sorrow

These pieces seemed to express sorrow, pain or weariness. While the one above goes on with the weight of the load, the one at the bottom seemed too tired to continue. The latter seemed way older than the one on top.
Water has discolored the sculptures giving it an old and weathered look.
